Check

Prepare

Save the changed object in correct sequence as a Deployment Manager task.

Check

Migrate

Move the Deployment Manager tasks to the target environment. Can be automated if using CI-CD

Check

Backup

Instruct Deployment Manager to create a database backup on the target environment and ensure data integrity.
Check

Execute

Run Deployment Manager to automatically apply all tasks to ensure changes are applied correctly and in order.

Rollback

(Optional) Automate the database restore process in case of errors. This can save time and effort with unforeseen issues.

How Does Deployment Manager Work?

Deployment Manager uses low-level database access and human-readable artifact features to automate deployment operations. It reads modified objects from the designated directory and executes them in the correct sequence. Deployment Manager can recognize new or modified objects and only deploy those specific ones. Deployment Manager makes these processes much more efficient and less time-consuming than traditional deployment.

Traditional Deployment

  1. Export transport zip files from changed labels committed to the OIM main database.
  2. Create or update document with deployment steps.
  3. Move transport files to target environment
  4. Create database backup on target environment before importing new transport files.
  5. Manually run the transporter tool for each transport zip file.
  6. Apply changes that cannot be easily saved to a transport file.
  7. (Optional) Manually restore database in case of error, fix the error, and retry.

Deployment Manager

1. Save changed objects as a task item in the correct sequence.
2. Move tasks to target environments.
3. Can be automated with CI-CD.
4. Can create database backups on target environments for guaranteed data integrity.
5. Automatically apply all tasks to ensure changes are applied correctly and in order.
6. (Optional) Automate the database restore process in the event of errors to save time and effort in case of unforeseen issues.
